The Champagne family commenced their long and esteemed tradition as grocery store owners in the early 1900’s, when current owner Bill Champagne’s grandfather opened ‘Champagne’s Market in South Hero. Bill’s parents Andre and Marion Champagne retailers of the Keeler Bay Variety Store, moved their grocery business to its current location in Grand Isle and has followed the same ethical practices that his father and grandfather established. “I’m proud of the legacy my parents and grandparents handed down in terms of hard work and devotion to the will-being of their staff and quality service to their customers”.
His forbearers have reason to be proud of him as well. In 2004, Bill and his late wife JoAnne were honored by receiving the Vermont Food Industry’s retailer of the year award.
“In the 30 years my late wife JoAnne and I were proprietors of A&B Beverage the Islands Supermarket, we worked diligently to provide residents and visitors to the Lake Champlain Islands with the freshest local produce, finest cuts of meat, to support local farmers and producers, as well as to give customers the personal care and attention only a small family run supermarket can provide”.
“I believe that taking good care of people, serving their needs with respect strengthens community-and it’s just good business!”
